Komune Bali Pro

Komune Bali Pro pres. by The Mad Hueys Back On

The World Surf League (WSL) Qualifying Series (QS) is set to see one of the most entertaining events of the year with Komune Bali Pro pres. by The Mad Hueys signing on for 2015. The event will have a QS1000 rating and will run from May 1 - 4 and is also sanctioned by the Asian Surfing Championship, allowing surfers to gain points on both tours and giving the local surfers a chance to compete against some international talent.

Taj Burrow (AUS), 35, current ASP WCT No. 4, opened up this mornings proceedings with an excellent 18.30 out of a possible 20 heat total to advance into the quarterfinals. ASP/Kirstin Taj Burrow clocking up some tube time at the Keramas CT in 2013. - WSL

Holding an event at Keramas always has a great chance of attracting the attention of the world's best surfers - Championship Tour (CT) athlete Taj Burrow (AUS) has already committed to compete at the event. Burrow lives in Western Australia which is only a three-hour flight away from Bali and plans to head there directly after his local CT event, the Drug Aware Margaret River Pro.

"Not only do I get to surf one of the best waves ever with a few guys, but I also get to compete against a couple of my best mates who aren't on the CT," Burrow said. "Damon 'Stamos' Nicols, Nathan Webster, Jay Davies and the Harringtons to name more than a few. The Indonesian boys will make this an epic event as they all surf really well also. It's going to be a fun few days in and out of the water!"

Dede Suryana (IND) took out last year's event and went on to claim the prestigious ASC Title. He won the event on his birthday and has plenty of fond memories from last year's inaugural Komune Bali Pro.

"It was a great feeling to win the Komune Bali Pro at Keramas," Suryana said. "It's the best feeling ever to win this event, it's my dream before to win WSL contest. Hopefully it's not just one but there will be more podiums for me and more WSL events in Indonesia. I'm so happy the Komune Bali Pro is back again this year, thanks to everyone for making this happen."

Last year's Komune Bali Pro runner-up Dean Morrison (AUS) enjoyed a return to competitive form at last year's event, resulting in a sponsorship contract from presenting sponsor The Mad Hueys.

"I'm really looking forward to the Komune Bali Pro and am super excited to get Keramas on with a couple guys out," Morrison said. "Fingers crossed we score good waves, because when it's on it is one of my favorite waves in Bali. Just make sure the lads wake me up for my heats as it's always a lot of fun around the pool having a few ales watching everyone rip the place apart!"

Komune co-owner Tony Cannon is thrilled to once again see a selection of the world's best surfers return to Bali and go head to head at one of the world's best waves.

"Komune Bali is stoked to be hosting the Komune Bali Pro again with the Mad Hueys boys and the WSL. We wanted to be able to give something back to Bali and the Bali surfers who allow us to exist in this magic location at Keramas.

"Together with the Mad Hueys we believe this year will be bigger and better than ever and allow some of the talented Indonesian surfers to compete against some of the best in the world at one of the best waves in the world right in front of the Komune Bali pool."

The event will run from May 1-4, 2015.
