The QS 1,000 Billabong Pro Shikoku presented by Player Resort is set to kick off at Ikumi Beach June 3. A collaboration between World Surf League (WSL) Japan and the Japan Pro Surfing Association (JPSA), the event will highlight the truly global aspect of surfing, showcasing some of the rising talent from Asia.

Widely known for its powerful swell, Ikumi Beach will provide the perfect backdrop as regional competitors battle for crucial rankings points. The Billabong Pro Shikoku will be the first co-sanctioned event between the WSL and the JPSA and results will be applied to rankings for both tours. As such, a large draw is expected.

"From Asia-Japan region, more athletes are able to experience the game and it becomes a chance to spread awareness about surfing in Japan and the future on the global scene," said WSL Japan regional manager Toshiya Omi. "At the same time you can get important regional points."

The Billabong Pro Shikoku will be the first co-sanctioned event between the WSL and the JPSA and results will be applied to rankings for both tours. The event will take place at Shikoku Kochi Prefecture Toyo and it will hold a seven-day waiting period beginning June 3.
