Matt Wilkinson had a tough Round Two match on his hands, with wildcard Brett Simpson as his opponent. Simpson is a former CT star who's trying hard to get another crack at the elite level. When he was on tour, some of his best performances came at Lower Trestles.
By Round Two standards this was a heavyweight battle, and it lived up to the hype. Wilko was on point, puncturing the lip with his precision backhand surfing, and mixing in a few releases for good measure. But Simpson took some bigger gambles, launching a critical air-reverse that proved to make the difference.
