Brazlian rookie Alex Ribeiro has had a very rough year. He finally advanced out of his first heat all season in Tahiti, upsetting Adriano de Souza after a long chess match in tricky conditions. On Friday at Lower Trestles he followed suit with a huge upset win over World No. 5 Julian Wilson. The difference this time is he did most of the damage with solid surfing; it was his best performance of the season.
