While conditions proved difficult on the first day of competition at the MEO Rip Curl Pro, 2013 event champ Kai Otton showed winning form in Round One with a win over Julian Wilson and Nat Young. Then, following a solid result in France, Kolohe Andino continued his run with a win over Quiksilver Pro Champ Keanu Asing and Brazilian rookie Alex Ribeiro. Finally, in Heat 3, World No. 4 Jordy Smith put his big frame to work in tricky Supertubos conditions, taking down rookie Kanoa Igarashi and Frenchman Jeremy Flores.
