Sitting in third place with less than a minute remaining in his heat, it seemed Vasco Ribeiro was doomed for an early exit in the Hawaiian Pro. But with 30 seconds left, he swung on a solid set and gouged his way to the highest score of the heat. Ribeiro's 9.37 on this wave was enough to take the win over an on-fire Tanner Gudauskas.
