It's rare to see the 11x World Champ compete in a Qualifying Series event, but when a promising forecast took shape for the Hawaiian Pro, Slater didn't scoff at the chance to surf uncrowded Haleiwa. He entered the event as a last-minute wildcard, and so far he seems to be taking full advantage of the opportunity. Kelly slashed his way to solid 9-point ride on this wave, and went on to win his Round Three heat.
