Tyler Wright's Year in Review

In a special edition of the Maui Women's Pro Dawn Patrol show, 2016 World Champion Tyler Wright joined the desk to talk about her emotional journey, and everything it took to win. For Wright, winning her first-ever Title was the realization of a long-awaited expectation among fans and peers, but it wasn't without its share of ups and downs. Wright's brother Owen, a veteran of the men's Samsung Galaxy Championship Tour surfer, was recovering from a head injury throughout the year. Their uncle, with whom Tyler was close, passed away just before the season even began.

But as Wright announced late last year, she was finally ready to focus on a World Title, and it showed. In her Dawn Patrol interview, she opened up not only about the work she put in with coach Glenn "Micro" Hall, but also how she handled criticism in years past for not yet focusing on a Title, despite her profound talent.

In a rare, in-depth chat with Wright, see why this was the year that was ripe for her to achieve her dream and fulfill her potential.
