Five-time Roxy Pro Gold Coast Champ Stephanie Gilmore pulled out a last-second comeback to take the win in her Round One heat over a barnstorming Lakey Peterson and Malia Manuel. With under a minute to go and Peterson in the lead, Gilmore used an almost laconic approach to her final ride just before the buzzer, only to see it reform into a shoulder-high nugget. Whether it was local knowledge or just plain luck, the 6x World Champ took advantage of the opportunity and sealed the heat right under Peterson's priority.
