It doesn't take much for local boy Mick Fanning to woo his hometown crowd out at Snapper during the Quik Pro. But the 3X World Champ blew away the cheering section with a last-second wave to take a Round One heat win today. It was classic Mick Fanning, who seems to pull out heat victories with sheer will alone. That he gutted it out against Kelly Slater (who's built a career pulling last minute voodoo moves) while putting Jeremy Flores to the sword made it that much sweeter for the giddy Gold Coasters posted up on the beach.
