Florence Doesn't Flinch Against Mikey Wright

World Champion John John Florence wants nothing more than to keep his Jeep Leader Yellow Jersey, but with a stacked field of talent there's little doubt he's going to have his hands full. Exhibit A: wildcard Mikey Wright.

Wright opened on a tear, nabbing a perfect barrel to start the heat. Conditions improved as the wind settled, and the tide pushed larger set waves around the point. Pretty soon, Snapper was looking picture perfect...only not for Florence.

With under two minutes to go Florence was behind, and sitting in the lineup without priority. It looked bleak for the champ. But then Wright made a huge error, letting a medium size grower slip past him.

Florence pounced.

Needing a 6.61, Florence got to work. The result was the kind of come-from-behind win World Champs deliver.
