With his powerful style of surfing and genuine aloha spirit Ezekiel Lau is a welcome addition to the WSL Championship Tour. Getting there, however, was far from easy. Lau's muscular brand of surfing was hardly tailor-made for the Qualifying Series (QS) and its smaller surf, so his long grind through surfing's minor league strata was a slog that took several years.
Indeed, at the end of 2016 it looked like Lau would have to wait even longer, as Frederico Morais and Jack Freestone ripped his Tour destiny out of his hands during the final QS event of the season. In the aftermath, Zeke had to sit and watch from the sidelines as his fate unfolded at Pipeline. His hopes were pinned on Kanoa Igarashi, last year's youngest rookie on Tour.
This is the story behind that story, and your formal introduction to one of the Tour's brightest young stars.
