Wilson Cracks the Quarters

For the first time this season, Julian Wilson surfed his way into the Quarterfinal round. It's a shocking revelation considering his surfing pedigree, and a fact not lost on the man himself. "I haven't made it past Round Five," said Jules afterward, with a shrug and a smile. "It's been a little bit of voodoo for me so far, but it's good to finally crack that round and start looking forward to the next round."

Wilson was on the short list of many pundits' picks for the Title hunt in 2017, but things haven't played out that way for the Sunshine Coaster. Currently sitting at No. 13, with two Round Three exits as throwaway results already in his portfolio, a run at a World Championship is probably not in the cards, but not completely outside the realm of possibilities. After finishing 2nd to Owen Wright in 2015, a win in Fiji will go a long way to improving his odds.
