Competition resumed in improving surf conditions, and the last challengers of Round Three have been determined.

All things come to those who wait

When athletes and organizers met this morning at Playa de Arriatera, no one would have been able to bet that we would see such a high level action. This was without counting with the local expertise of Contest Director Aritza Saratxaga, from Peña Txuri Surf School.

Conditions went from small and windy swell, embellished with a pleasant unstoppable rain, to warm and clean peelers, exactly what was needed to pull off the last few heats of Round Two at the Junior Pro Sopela.

After five consecutive calls since the early morning, the event resumed around lunchtime and Willoughby Masterman was the first to take advantage of the improving conditions.

"This morning looked really bad, I got a freesurf and it wasn't great," he said. "Now it looks a lot better, and at least there are waves. It's been really small on most of the other comps so we are lucky. The waves are steep and bowly, it's quite hard to get a couple of good ones but you just got to be patient and wait for the good ones to come through."

All the roads lead to Sopela

This little surf town has been in the center of all the junior attention for many years and those young professional athletes are getting more and more committed to the whole junior tour.

Coming from Morocco, Zouhir Selyann was showing a lot of enthusiasm this afternoon. His motivation to compete in as many events as possible on mainland Europe was equally proportional to the score he posted.

"I went to all the junior events in Europe apart from Caparica and I want to enter the few upcoming QS events in France, and the one at home in Morocco of course!"

Only four heats were surfed today and saw the remarquable scores of Mathis Crozon, 14.06, who did it again, and portuguese Tomas Ribeiro, 12.83.

Men's action will be back on Friday with a call at 8 a.m for a potential Round Three start, and at 12 p.m for women to launch the first two rounds.
