In a massive upset, North Shore native Coco Ho took down World Champ Tyler Wright today in the Quarterfinals of the Vans US Open of Surfing, the sixth stop on the women's WSL Championship Tour (CT). She had a crew of cheering for her on the pier, as well as a supportive response from broadcasters on the sand. In her post-heat interview with Strider Wasilewski, she acknowledged her new push to break through the upper tier of the rankings:
"I want to find my feet on Tour and stop doing the QS... we're only halfway through the year." In the past, Ho has relied on her ranking on the Qualifying Series (QS) to keep her spot on the elite CT. If she can maintain her momentum, however, this year could be different.
