Look Out for Lima

Was it something in the water? Was it the massive home country support? Or was she simply sick of finishing last? We'll never know exactly what ignited Silvana Lima's incredible come-from-behind win earlier this month at the Swatch Women's Pro, but whatever launched her back into the limelight is still burning strong. The Brazilian, who was forced to re-qualify for the Tour this year for a jaw-dropping third time, carried her momentum from Southern California directly to the Cascais Women's Pro, where she dominated her Round One heat Wednesday morning. It's obvious when a surfer is primed and ready to send heads rolling, and as she paddled out, Lima bore all the signs: Energy in her drive down the line, a spring in her snaps and a certain sureness with every float and drop. Afterward, she spoke to her rhythm coming out of California: "I'm feeling really confident after Trestles. The waves here are really fun and really suit me so I'm very happy. I'm stoked to make it through and I'm just going to take it heat by heat from here." Would-be opponents, however, be warned. She added, "I'd love another win though!" Look out for Lima when Round Three kicks off.
