Eight Qualifying Spots Are Still Up for Grabs

Brazilian Yago Dora lost early in the QS 10,0000 EDP Billabong Pro Cascais, one of the biggest Qualifying Series events of the year. Fortunately for Dora, one week earlier he won the Azores Airlines Pro, lifting his Qualifying Series point total over the all-important threshold of 19,000 points. Historically, that's been enough to make the Top 10, which is the cutoff to make the Championship Tour. That said, celebrating early is taboo, which is something current QS No. 1 Jesse Mendes knows well. Last year, after winning the QS 10,000 event in Cascais, Mendes seemed to be on his way to qualifying. But his plans were undone in Hawaii by Frederico Morais and Jack Freestone. This year, he's not making the same mistake. Mendes has dominated the QS thus far. With Dora now likely to join him on next year's Championship Tour, that means only eight Qualifying Series slots remain.
