On July 14, Kai Lenny set the new official record for the Maui2Molokai paddleboard race on a 27-mile course through the Pailolo Channel.

Competing on a foil in the the men's 19-to-29 division, Lenny completed this feat in 02:17:09 with an average speed topping 11 miles per hour.

According to Kai, Epic conditions helped him achieve this record and the surf world was active in it's support on Instagram.

Kelly Slater commented, "Wow. Crazy speed," and Carlos Burle chimed in with, "Congrats Champ." Actor Josh Brolin also gave props, commenting "Unreal."

For a bit of context, the world record for a marathon on a 26.2 mile course is 02:02:57, averaging close to 12.5 miles an hour. The fastest average speed for an individual during a Tour de France time trial on a 9-mile course clocks in at 34.5 mph.
