The Australian Longboard Surfing Open (ALSO) is preparing for a massive week of surfing starting this Wednesday at Kingscliff, NSW. The event's blue ribbon Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Longboard Qualifying Series (LQS) men's Legendary Pacific Coast Men's Pro and the Pretty Shady Women's Pro will see the return of the 2013 and 2012 event champions - Harley Ingleby (Coffs Harbour, NSW/AUS), Georgia Young (Perth, WA/AUS), Taylor Jensen (CA/USA) and Chelsea Williams (Gold Coast, NSW/AUS).

Harley Ingleby, 2009 ASP World Longboard Champion and last year's ASP World Longboard No. 3 ranked surfer, has confirmed he will defend his title, along with last year's ASP Australasia No. 1 rated Georgia Young.

"The Australian Longboard Surfing Open is always a great event with a really tough field,” Ingleby said. “I'm really hoping to defend my title, I surfed at Kingscliff today and the bank is different from the last couple of years and more like what I usually surf at home which should make things interesting. There are some great international and Australian surfers in the event and I'm looking forward to getting in the water with them."

The Australian Longboard Surfing Open (ALSO), Australia's richest longboarding event is pleased to announce the Legendary Pacific Coast, the top tourism drive between Sydney and Brisbane, as naming rights sponsor of the men's ASP Longboard Qualifying Series. This year's Legendary Pacific Coast Men's Pro will be streamed live on the Internet as well as on Time Warner Cable in Hawaii and the US, broadening the international reach of the event.

"This has been a huge step forward for us in showcasing longboarding here in Australia especially in the awesome waves that Kingscliff is now becoming renowned for. I've also just gotten word that we have have a competitor coming all the way from China to enter this event, which shows the global reach and importance of this event." said event organiser Sean McKeown.

The festival is located in the world-class surfing destination of Kingscliff, only 10 minutes drive from Snapper Rocks. Running from March 26 - 30, 2014 ALSO pays homage to the history of longboard surfing with surf vehicles and classic car display, the Miss Beach Girl competition, surf films, surf yoga, art and lifestyle stalls.
