Macy Callaghan Breaks Round 2 Barrier in France

Macy Callaghan won her second heat of the Championship Tour season today at the Roxy Pro France. The Australian overthrew Nikki Van Dijk in Round 2 despite the complicated conditions. She put a 5.33 on the board early in the heat and Van Dijk was unable to find a wave that would hold up long enough to retaliate.

Callaghan got a 9th place at the first event of the season at the Roxy Pro Gold Coast, but since then has struggled to find her footing. Her break through today could propel her in the right direction.

"There's been a lot of learning curves this year," said Callaghan. "This is just my second heat win of the year. But I'm having fun. I'm traveling with a good crew. That last heat was really scrappy. I don't feel like I put my best display on. It's really hard to pick the right waves. I made some mistakes, especially when I let her go on that last one but I'm glad to have made it through."

Callaghan will go up against Tatiana Weston-Webb and Sally Fitzgibbons in Round 3 Heat 4 of the Roxy Pro France once the women's event resumes.
