Rip Curl Re-Signs Blanchard

Alana Blanchard, ASP Top 17 surfer and social media phenomenon, has just re-signed a multi-year deal with long-time supporter Rip Curl. ASP caught up with Rip Curl Marketing Manager Brooke Farris to get her thoughts on the renewed partnership:

Alana has been with Rip Curl for 10 years. What does she bring to the team?
"Alana brings a sense of fun, beauty, good times and a real embodiment of 'The Search' to the Rip Curl family. She loves surfing and it shows in everything she does. She's a great representation of Rip Curl."

...competition for her amongst the other brands was pretty fierce.

With one of the most passionate and robust social media followings in the sport, Alana has a massive profile. Is it safe to say there was a bidding war surrounding her renewal?
"Alana's profile has grown phenomenally in the last few years. She is the most followed surfer in the world on social media and competition for her amongst the other brands was pretty fierce. However, she is part of our family and I think her decision to renew with Rip Curl is representative of the relationship we've built together. We've been supportive of her and who she wants to be both in and out of the water and we look forward to seeing her develop more in the coming years."

Outside of surfing, how does Alana work with the Rip Curl team?
"Alana is very involved in the design process at Rip Curl - specifically with the Alana's Closet range and the Mirage Bikini line. She has very strong opinions on what she likes and is great at incorporating those into the Rip Curl ranges."

What are your predictions for Alana at the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach?
"Last year, we held Round 1 in clean conditions at Rincon and Alana surfed brilliantly, even besting five-time ASP Women's World Champion Steph Gilmore. Alana is a fantastic surfer and if we get a start at Round 1 of the women's today in similar conditions, I think she'll go great and it will help her confidence throughout the event."

Alana will do battle in the coming days at the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach

Official Release from Rip Curl below:

Torquay, Vic, Australia (April 16, 2014): Rip Curl is ecstatic to announce a renewed multi-year partnership with longtime professional team rider and brand ambassador, Alana Blanchard.

The relationship, dating a decade long now, goes back to when Alana was just 14 years old, competing in the NSSA at her home break, Pinetrees, in Kauai, Hawaii. Since that time, Alana, now 24 years old, has emerged as one of the highest profile athletes in the sport, a perennial member of the ASP Women's WCT, as well as the current SURFER POLL Awards Winner.

"I'm so excited to be renewing with my long time partner Rip Curl. They're like family to me,” stated Alana, as she prepares to compete at the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach this week.

During recent years, Rip Curl and Alana have been able to collaborate on various projects and products, including the “Alana's Closet” signature collection of bikinis, as well as Rip Curl's SIMA Image Award winning “My Bikini” campaign.

“I've been able to be a part of creating some amazing bikinis, wetsuits, and other products over the years, and I can't wait for what's next,” Alana continued.

For Rip Curl, the feeling couldn't be more mutual. “After 10 years with us, we're really stoked to have Alana resign for another long term. We love her at Rip Curl, she is a very important surfer to us,” said Neil Ridgway, Group Advertising and Marketing Chairman.

“It seems like yesterday when we shipped Alana her first box of clothing and Rip Curl stickers,” stated Rip Curl USA's VP of Marketing, Dylan Slater. “Since then, she has blossomed to accomplish so much in and out of the water. We couldn't be more proud of her. And, we couldn't be more proud to have her representing Rip Curl heading into the future.”

Aside from the webcasts of ASP Women's WCT events like the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach, Alana can be seen on her signature Network A YouTube Series – SURFER GIRL- as well as in our latest MY BIKINI campaign, which can be seen on
