Kelly Slater and the team at HBO Sports are celebrating a big win. At the 41st Annual Sports Emmy Awards last night the HBO franchise "24/7," which featured Slater's time on the North Shore in 2019, took home three awards.
The program won for Outstanding Edited Sports Special or Series, Outstanding Camera Work and also took home The Dick Schaap Outstanding Writing Award.
Last winter HBO documented the 11-time World Champion's preparations for the season finale on the North Shore of Oahu, and the beginning of his run at the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing.
In the special, Slater talks through his relentless competitive drive, the ups and downs of his career, and his dream of winning the Billabong Pipe Masters, the crown jewel of the Triple Crown, just one last time.
"If I could win the Pipe Masters this year, and if it was the last contest I ever won in my career, I would die a happy man." Slater reveals.
He didn't win the Pipe Masters, but he did go on to win the Vans Triple Crown for the first time in his 29 years on Tour.
Needless to say, those Emmys are going to look really nice next to the trophies for Slater's 11 World Titles, his 55 event career event wins, and of course, the 2019 Triple Crown.
