Oguragahama, Hyuga-shi, Miyazaki-ken （Thursday, October 2nd, 2014)
2014 ASP JAPAN TOUR EVENT 6 " Malibu HYUGA PRO " (Mens QS 2 Star Event) and (mens longboard 1 star, and womens longboard 1 star events ) will be held this coming OCT.11th(SAT) to OCT 13th(MON)(National Holiday) at Okuragahama Beach in Hyuga-shi, Miyazaki-ken. Conjunction event "Akugare Team Challenge"will be held as well.
The event boasts \3,000,000- total prize money on offer for the Star Series 2 star event, along with \700,000- for the mens LQS and womens LQS event named the " MALIBU HYUGA PRO LONGBOARD" respectively.
This year in 2014, for the QS alone, ASP Japan finished the 3 Star event in July in Kanagawa-ken, and this coming event will be the 2nd event for 2014 with the 3rd and last event coming up in November in Taiwan.
This coming event along with the Shonan Open which finished in July will be the largest surfing events in Japan. After finishing all events for 2014 the regional champion will be decided.
The regional champion may get an wild card for the coming 2015 World Surf League prime and 6 Star events. This rule is still tentative along with many possible changes in consltation that may come in effect and action for the new 2015 season. This new rule for the wild card for the regional high seeds, can make a big inpact for the regional surfers. Last year Hiroto Ohara who finished 3rd in the WJC won the wild card for the prime and 6 Star Series for 2014 and is on the tour fully. If we have another athlete from the region this will be a big honor along with the big chance for the region and athletes. This coming event which was graded up to a 2Star recently in September makes the chances bigger. We all look forward for the new regional champion and high seeds.
The athletes from the Japan region who qualified for the WJC in Portugal in November were decided after the Minami Boso Junior Pro in September. 6 Mens and 2 Women qualified for the WJC and if any of them finish high in Portugal , we may see more athletes from the region for the World League higher rated events including the prime events.
Ryota Matsushita captured the win in Shonan Open in September is leeding the regional champion ratings. Event defending champion Shun Murakami, top young guns Arashi Kato, Takumi Nakamura, Takumi Yasui along with veterans of Yujiro Tsuji, Kenta Hayashi, Izuki Tanaka are all hungry for victory.
A large typhoon is about to hit Japan with another elements following in the Pacific and may turn into another typhoon for the weekend.
For the LQS 1 star event, defending event champion Neilson Ahinaâ…¢(HAW) and 2013 World Champion Piccolo Clemente(Peru)and for the womens Hirika Yoshikawa and Yuki Suzuki as well as Ahina sisters from Hawaii will be present for the longboard event to qualify for the WLC.
