You've just got to be a little bit of crazy. To me, any surfer on Tour is capable of winning any event. They're all great surfers. If you're in the event, your skill-set's pretty damn good. You've got to be a little bit of crazy to sit in the right position and take some of those waves. You're like, 'Oh, it doesn't look that good.' And usually those are the waves that you get the best scores on. You've got to be a little crazy to take some of those waves.

I forget what year, but I had my worst wipeout at the Pipe Masters. I went twice to the hospital in a day. I thought I broke my arm early in the Quarterfinal, did a trip to the hospital and then hitchhiked from the hospital back to the event. I won the Semis and I'm leading the Final and got knocked unconscious and took a second trip to the hospital.

Not that it was scary, because I didn't know what was happening, but it was a long day for me... It was one to remember. Well, not that I remember, but kind of.
Hawaii is what it is. If people really want to experience it, the best thing to do is to get on airplane and come over. You can read all these things that aren't necessarily true -- the good, the bad. But everyone's going to have a different experience. So the best way is to come have your own.
