@brainshots has finished his book 'The Big Wave Riders of Hawaii'. All portraits were taken using wet plate photography. I think it's pretty interesting to compare these photos to historical ones from the period of wet plate photography. I've always wondered what the personalities of the people were actually like (it's hard to tell, because you have to hold the same face for a minute as it exposes). Since I know all the legends in this book well, I feel like I have a kind of "Rosetta Stone" to apply to other old photos, when trying to put a personality to a face. Pictured here is Uncle Titus (from the book). A real Hawaiian waterman from Kauai.
