Deivid Silva, like many of the talented Brazilians, wasted no time in chasing his dream of qualifying for the CT. He left his home town of Guaruja, on Sao Paulo’s coast, aged just 17 and competed on the tour full-time. In six years he came close on numerous occasions before eventually making the cut in 2018.
The diminutive goofy footer had a mix of aerials and hyper-fast beach break turns that made him a threat at most of the events. Now it’s a lazy stereotype to group the Brazilians together, but as the son of a gifted surfer with a strong Christian faith and a young family, he fits the Toledo template rather well.
The two also share some of the fastest board speed of any surfers on tour. In his rookie CT year Tahiti and Pipe were always set to be a test, but with a set of consistent results and the odd flash of brilliance back on the QS, Silva secured his spot for 2020.
