About Joshua Moniz

When you’re born smack dab in the middle of one of Hawaii’s most prestigious surfing families, it’d be easy to get lost in the shuffle. Dad is a legend from the ‘80s. Sister is a two-time World Longboard Champion. Mom and all other siblings are almost equally accomplished.

But as for Honolulu’s Josh Moniz, he’s been able to leap out from under his family’s gigantic shadow and create a legendary reputation of his own. One that started as a young, frothing grommet competing with his talented brothers and sister for hours-on-end.

The legend began to take form around the many fun breaks in and around Town on Oahu’s South Shore. It became solidified in February of 2018 when Josh stormed his way to the top of the podium of said year’s Volcom Pipe Pro, arguably the most prestigious WQS event on the schedule. He outdid countless Pipe experts and seasoned professionals en route to a stacked final that featured former champ, Jamie O’Brien. The slug match lasted nearly the entire heat, with the young Moniz exiting victoriously on the shoulders of his family as he was chaired up the beach.

Since that epic day in February 2018, Josh continued to build upon his Pipeline success in the hopes of qualifying for the big leagues, much like his brother Seth.

Thanks to his natural talent, brooding strength, and undying aloha spirit, Josh made the most of 2019 and qualified for this year’s Championship Tour. And, let’s be honest, we’ve waited long enough for a solid brotherly duo on tour.
