About Brisa Hennessy
Brisa Hennessy was raised in the jungle of Costa Rica by her surf instructor parents. At eight years old she was transplanted to Oahu’s North Shore for her school years before spending chunks of her teenage summers in Fiji. Her transient childhood gave her access to some of the world’s best waves, where she fell in love with surfing and honed her style to be both powerful and smooth. With a smile always on her face and a perpetually positive attitude, Brisa worked her way up the Qualifying Series ranks and at the end of 2018 qualified for the CT. Hennessy immediately impressed in her rookie year and a third-place finish early in the season at the Corona Bali Protected was a real signifier that she could play a big role in women’s surfing for the next decade.
Her form did tail off throughout the rest of 2019, but she maintained her CT status through excellent results on the QS. Her eventual finish as the World No. 11 in her rookie year helped her qualify to represent Costa Rica at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games. She would be just one of five athletes the tiny Central American nation would send to Japan. Apart from the Olympics, her main focus is to climb the CT rankings and push for World Title contention. Given her talent and age, she's destined to be a big name in surfing.
