Victoria is proud to again host the longest running professional surfing event in the world for the 54th time. Set at the world-renowned Bells Beach in Torquay, the tournament regularly attracts the world's top surfers, including defending champions Carissa Moore (HAW) and Australia's own Mick Fanning.
In addition Australia's very best will fly our country's flag, including Stephanie Gilmore and Joel Parkinson. Fans can also saw some of Victoria's rising stars compete for a wildcard entry to the main draw in the Victorian Government-sponsored trials.
Major Events like the Rip Curl Pro help stimulate Victoria's economy and are instrumental in promoting Victoria's fantastic regional areas.
It is an integral part of the impressive list of national and international events that Victoria proudly hosts, ensuring our position as the events capital of Australia. We attract over 2.3 million international tourists each year, with thousands coming to attend the many major events on the state's calendar.
I encourage all our interstate and overseas guests to take a trip along the nearby Great Ocean Road to view the famous Twelve Apostles, the natural beauty of the Great Otway National Park's ancient rainforests, or sample the fine food and wine of the Bellarine Peninsula.
I welcome all guests to this year's event and wish all competitors the best of luck as they aim to ring the world famous 'Bell' at competition's end.
