Fresh off a victory at the Oi HD Sao Paulo Open in Brazil, Miguel Pupo (BRA) snuck some time in at home before heading to Hawaii. Like fellow Australian Kennedy, Soli Bailey (currently No. 17 on the QS) will require a strong result in the Hawaiian Triple Crown to break into the Top 10 of the QS. Davey Cathels (AUS) launched himself into the qualification conversation with a second-place finish at the QS 10,000 in Sao Paulo. At No. 8 he's got a little distance between himself and the cutoff, but with as many as 17 surfers clamoring to break in, he will need to continue his momentum at Haleiwa. -- @daveycathels: our kidding!
