In an all-Californian Round Two battle, Santa Barbara rookie Conner Coffin squared off against Santa Cruz staple Nat Young. Nat had the rookie against the ropes up until the final minutes, when Conner lucked into one last wave. Coffin pushed through two solid backhand hits on a clean Pico do Fabril left, earning a 7.67, and a crucial win.
Sitting in a sensitive No. 24 spot on the Jeep leaderboard, Conner desperately needed this Round Two win to keep his 2017 Tour hopes alive. No. 22 is the CT cutoff point.
