Top Seeds Raise Stakes in Requalification Race

The Billabong Pipe Masters is the last opportunity for low-ranked CT surfers to earn a slot on the 2017 Samsung Galaxy Championship Tour. But in Round One top seeds Jordy Smith, Gabriel Medina, and John John Florence showed no regard for these high-pressure scenarios, nor did stalwarts like Jermy Flores, Michel Bourez and Filipe Toledo. Now, Jadson Andre (No. 25), Kanoa Igarashi (No. 24), Keanu Asing (No. 23), and Nat Young (No. 22) all face critical do-or-die heats in Round Two. While they're all still in the hunt for a Top 22 spot, they're also more vulnerable than ever.

Luckily, Jadson and Kanoa are already safe for 2017 thanks to their Top 10 finish on the Qualifying Series. However, if they crack the Top 22 at Pipe, they could open up a CT slot for fellow QS warrior, Ezekiel Lau. Asing and Young, on the other hand, have their jobs on the line.
