Last week in Fiji, the Top 17 women had a little downtime between ripping small-scale Cloudbreak to shreds and waiting for the waves to pick up. On one of those afternoons, two titans of the Championship Tour (CT) -- 3x Champ Carissa Moore and 6x Champ Stephanie Gilmore -- sat down together and revealed a set of other talents. Behold, an acoustic rendition of Norah Jones' Don't Know Why:
From time to time, Gilmore has showcased her chops on the guitar. In recent years, she has played for fans at event venues like Snapper Rocks, where she jammed with Jimmy Buffett, the king of Margaritaville. Elsewhere, she has offered subtler odes to her other love -- among the treats included in a gift bag collaboration with Monster Children was a limited- edition, signature guitar strap and pick.
In contrast, Moore's musical skills have been under wraps. In a recent interview on the WSL Dawn Patrol show, Ronnie Blakey asked her about her recent singing lessons. With her typical humility, however, Moore demurred, insisting that the lessons were just for fun. What she neglected to mention was that in fact, her talent in the water might be matched by those that surface on land, with an acoustic melody playing and a phone full of lyrics.

Both Moore and Gilmore have almost seven weeks off until the next elite women's contest -- plenty of time to keep playing music. Catch them next at the Vans US Open of Surfing, starting July 31.
