In the first chapter of his journey through India, Sam Bleakley travels to Kerala, where he visits the growingly popular surf and yoga retreat Soul & Surf. The instructors here have discovered a new career path based around surf tourism. It becomes evident that the joy of surfing has changed the lives of India's younger generation and has provided possibilities far beyond the traditions of their ancestors. Just days into his trip, Sam quickly finds that food is a perfect way to explore India, and trades in a fork and knife to learn to eat with his hands.
