In 1982, Hurricane Iwa smashed Oahu leaving the North Shore gutted. There was no gas, no fresh water, no power and only one bar remained open. To blow off steam you had to head to Town - which is exactly what Michael Ho and Buttons did one night in December. Next day Michael didn't just have a sore head, he had a forearm cast going out past the knuckles. And the Masters were on the next day.
Michael took a hacksaw and cut the cast off just above the knuckle line, to free his hand just enough to grab rail.
Finals morning, Ho paddled out to flawless 8-10 foot Pipe with a freshly broken scaphoid bone and modified cast.
It was the sort of thing only a Ho brother could pull off.
