The World Surf League's (WSL) fans, staff and Championship Tour surfers know as well as anyone how important the ocean is to our global surfing community. The ocean is our office, our playground, our place of worship, and whether you live on the coast, or thousands of miles inland, its health is vital to the health and well-being of everyone.

To show our support for our favorite place and to ensure a healthy ocean for us and for generations of surfers to come, WSL and partners recently announced the We Are One Ocean campaign, encouraging world leaders to protect 30 percent of our global ocean by the year 2030, or 30x30. What's Coming?

Keep an eye out for a series of virtual events coming later this week, plus content from your favorite surfers, ocean organizations and friends, all centered around a love of our ocean and signing the petition to protect it.

On Valentine's weekend, February 11-14, join us, our athletes, friends and partners by posting your tribute to the ocean on social media --Β it can be ocean-themed art, a photo of your favorite break, an ocean sunset, anything that shows your love of the ocean-and tag #weareoneocean and @wsl. What's Next?

Later this year, world leaders will meet at the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (UN CBD) to decide how we all use and protect our ocean. With over a million species at risk of extinction in our lifetime, this convention is a once-in-a-decade chance to protect life on our planet and safeguard a healthier future for all of us. Through petition signatures for the We Are One Ocean movement, we're hoping to show broad support of 30x30 to those leaders ahead of the UN CBD, encouraging them to all agree on this important goal -- protect 30 percent of the ocean by 2030.

Until then, we will continue to build a groundswell of public support through Championship Tour events and other moments throughout the year to show our leaders how much we all want to protect our one ocean. Help us start off strong, sign the petition today: weareoneocean.org.
