1990 World Champion Pam Burridge Opens Up About Fighting For Equality In Pro Surfing

Episode 59

On this installment of "The Lineup" with Dave Prodan, 1990 World Champion and women's surfing pioneer Pam Burridge discusses the upcoming "Girls Can't Surf" film about the trailblazing group of female professional surfers in the 1980s.

The Early Days Of The Women's Tour

Burridge describes the intense struggle to take on the male-dominated pro surfing world to achieve equality. She dives into her surfing origins, turning pro at the young age of 15, and almost winning a title in her first year on the Championship Tour.

Australian World Titles

Burridge also breaks down winning the World Title in 1990 and what it will take to get more Australian titles. Touching on Narrabeen as a stop on the upcoming Australian Leg of the Tour, she breaks down how adding heavy-water waves like Pipeline and Teahupo'o to the women's Tour will change the dynamic.

"Girls Can't Surf" will be in theaters around Australia on March 11 and New Zealand starting April 8. For more information go to MadManFilms.com.au
