The World Surf League (WSL) Africa will head to Nahoon Reef in East London for the Sea Harvest Nahoon Open presented by Cell C. This Qualifying Series (QS) 1,000 runs from 19-21 March 2022. For the top South African male and female surfers, there's more on the line than the R60,000 in prize money. This event will determine the top two women and top four men that will qualify for the 2022 Challenger Series.

The Sea Harvest Nahoon Open presented by Cell C is a Surfing South Africa (SSA) SAST Junior competition featuring boys and girls in the U12, U14, U16 and U18 divisions. WSL Africa is proud to partner with SSA and Sea Harvest to host a WSL QS 1,000 competition.

"WSL Africa would like to acknowledge SSA, and their districts for their support in helping WSL Africa in the selection of the surfers who move onto the Challenger Series in April and start the next part of their journey in professional surfing. Thanks to Robin De Kock, Cell C, the Buffalo City Surfriders and the rest of the sponsors for helping WSL in Africa by bringing what I know will be another great event at the world famous surf break of Nahoon Reef," said Colin Fitch, WSL Africa Operations Manager.

Current WSL Africa rankings leader and East London local Zoƫ Steyn is looking forward to competing at her home break.

"It is really special to have a Qualifying Series event in my hometown at a wave that I have surfed since I was a grom. Nahoon Reef is one of the most consistent waves I know, whether it's onshore or offshore, big or small, there are always waves. I am really looking forward to the competition," said Steyn.

"The Sea Harvest Nahoon Open celebrates its fifth anniversary this year and is one of the most popular and successful SAST Junior events on the National calendar," said Robin de Kock, Surfing South Africa General Manager. "Surfing South Africa is grateful to Sea Harvest for their ongoing support of this event and is stoked to welcome Cell C, Twizza, SMTH Shapes, Seymour Properties and of course Oakhampton Guest House as partners this year. While the U12 to U18 Divisions at the Sea Harvest Nahoon Open presented by Cell C remain the focus for Surfing South Africa we are excited to be working with WSL in presenting a QS1,000 for Men and Women as part and parcel of the 2022 event. We believe that the combination of our junior surfers and our top professionals competing at the contest is a perfect fit and we look forward to another successful Nahoon Reef competition. Our thanks to all our sponsors, supporters, partners and to the Buffalo City Surfriders who will host the event."
