The WSL is saddened to hear of the passing of Dick Schwarzstein on Sunday night at the age of 87. Dick was on the ASP Board as legal counsel and helped support pro surfing's structure in its early stages.

"My Father-in-Law, Richard Schwarzstein passed away last night. He was 87," said Ian Cairns. "Dick was always the calm in the eye of the storm in the family and as a Harvard lawyer was a big contributor to the OC arts community, as a Board Member to the Orange County Philharmonic, the Laguna Art Museum and the Laguna College of Art and Design. What many don't know is that, in support of Alisa's surfing, he also served for many years on the Boards of the National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA) and the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP), incorporating both as 501c3 non-profits. Our entire extended family will miss him and his sage advice. He's on a new journey today. Bon voyage."
