PRAIA DE CARCAVELOS, Cascais - Portugal - On October 7, the ASP Prime Cascais Billabong Pro will return to the iconic Carcavelos stretch of beach and welcome some of the World's Best surfers including numerous big names from the Samsung Galaxy ASP World Championship Tour.

This second edition in Cascais will conclude an exciting 2014 European Qualifying Series season and award the prestigious regional champion trophy, as well as play a crucial role in the Portuguese Waves Series - Cascais Trophy title race. Following the first event of the series in Azores last month, surfers in the top ranks will be eager to perform in Cascais for a chance to notch the extra $50k prizepurse awarded to the overall winner after the Moche Rip Curl Pro Portugal.

Leading the immense talent pool coming to battle in Cascais will be current World No.3 Mick Fanning (AUS), who has already collected two event wins this season at the elite level and is still in contention for a potential third World Title.

"I've always enjoyed the European leg and Portugal has been a great addition to the ASP World Championship Tour,” Fanning said. “Taking part in the event at Cascais gives me the opportunity to explore more of the coastline and test myself against the super talented surfers on the Word Qualifying Series. Hoping to score waves and a win!”

The swell consistency on the Portuguese coast this time of year and the ability to select two different locations promise a week of intense world class action between Carcavelos and Guincho. Alongside the numerous Portuguese surf fans, event organizers are looking forward to the start of an epic week of surfing.

"We want to make this one of the best prime events in ASP history,” Frederico Texeira, event manager stated. "Hopefully the swell and conditions provide a perfect platform for the majority of the Worlds best surfers to perform here at the Cascais Billabong Pro. We are building the Portuguese Wave Series - Cascais Trophy to showcase the variety of world class waves here in Portugal.”

The first call has been set to 7:15am (local time: WEST) Tuesday, for a potential early start of Round 1 at the backup venue of Guincho. Expected surf conditions are waves in the 5-to-7-foot range with medium W-SW winds. Up first when the event launches will be World No.8 Adriano De Souza (BRA) against Damien Hobgood (USA), Wade Carmichael (AUS) and Jose Ferreira (PRT).
