Before the Fiji Pro kicked off, 11-time World Champion Kelly Slater (USA) discussed about the struggles he's facing as he goes for a dozen. During the contest, he made it to Round 5 but was defeated there by Tour rookie Italo Ferreira (BRA).
Sally Fitzgibbons (AUS) had a heartbreaking finish in 2014, but after a short offseason the Tour veteran and current world No. 3 appears to be on the rebound, especially after her big win at the Fiji Women's Pro. In this short video feature, Fitzgibbons talks about maturing as an athlete and what it takes to overcome difficult results.
You may have noticed a running tally during the Fiji Pro broadcast: The number of surfers left from "Team Namotu" and "Team Tavarua." Namotu and Tavarua are two islands close to the main contest site at Cloudbreak and the Tour splits lodgings evenly between them. Namotu, however, has the distinction of being a bit of a man-cave, so when Julian Wilson (AUS) brought his girlfriend to the event, he opted to stay on Tavarua. Josh Kerr (AUS) was glad to keep him company but worried the consequences would be dire.
In the end, Namotu got the ultimate revenge when island rep Owen Wright (AUS) defeated Wilson in the Final.
C.J. Hobgood (USA) announced during the Fiji Pro that this season will be his last. In this exclusive interview, the 2001 World Champion sits down with Ronnie Blakey to share his thoughts on leaving the Tour after 17 years, achieving his dreams, and what he wants -- and doesn't want -- for the future.
Last year, Nikki Van Dijk (AUS) was forced to leave the Fiji Women's Pro after Round 1 when she hit her face on the reef. With renewed determination, Van Dijk faced her fears and made this year's Quarterfinals. See how she got back in the lineup, to earn her best result so far in 2015.
Kelly Slater (USA) has been visiting Tavarua for more than 20 years and has a particular affection for Cloudbreak. In this World Surf League exclusive, the 11-time World Champion talks through how he approaches heavy water barrels on his backhand.
