Western Australia's top longboarders are gearing up to take on the world's best as competition kicks off at the Albion Capital 2015 Whalebone Longboard Classic at Perth's iconic Cottesloe Beach. Celebrating its eighteenth year, the event will run from July 10 - 12.

The event will feature an array of divisions headlined by the World Surf League Longboard Qualifying Series (LQS) event, a number of eager surfers will be after valuable ratings points that go toward qualifying for the Longboard World Championships in China later this year.

Some of these big names include two-time World Longboard Champion Taylor Jensen (USA) and returning to the Whalebone Classic after a three-year hiatus is current World Longboard Champion Harley Ingleby (AUS) who can't wait to hit the water.

"It's great to be back at the Whalebone Classic," Ingleby said. "It's been a couple of years now so I'm really excited to be back at such an amazing event especially with some of the names involved this year. It's great to see such a thriving Longboard community here at Cottesloe, there are so many competitors from such a large range of ages and generations, it's so good for our sport."

Reigning women's event champion at the Whalebone Classic is local favorite Georgia Young (AUS) is feeling quietly confident as the world's best arrive at her home break.

"I'm feeling really good going into the event," Young Said. "I surf this wave pretty much every day it breaks and have won it a few times before. It's good to be confident but it's such a high level of surfing, everyone is so good that you really have to be on point to beat the best of them."

After a cold windy week in Perth, conditions are shaping up to be clean all weekend keeping organizers and competitors quite happy.

"The winds are light and favorable for each day of the weekend and it's looking like we will have a steady swell that looks good for 'Iso's' (Isolators), especially for longboarding, so overall it should be a great weekend of surfing," said Young.
