For want of a better example, I would compare my experience in Kiribati to that of Cooper's on the water planet in Interstellar. Not for the giant swells, but for the way in which time get so stretched. It's the closest I've ever felt to experiencing dilation, it felt like a whole year had elapsed by the time I returned to Sydney a week later.
