Although Torrey Meister wasn't vying for a Samsung Galaxy Championship Tour slot at Sunset, his local knowledge proved lethal throughout the Vans World Cup. Starting in Round One, the Big Island native won every heat up until the Semis, and crushed a handful of CT dreams along the way. However, he faced one of his biggest challenges in the Quarters when he squared off against 11x World Champ Kelly Slater and Brazilian upstart Jesse Mendes. Once again, Meister upped the ante when he threaded one of the best barrels of the day to earn a near-perfect 9.93. Although Slater ended up advancing in second place, Jesse's CT dreams came to a screeching halt when he was eliminated. Torrey went on to earn a huge third place finish in the Final.
