Post Show Report: Brazilians Thrill Home Crowd at Saquarema

A carnival-like atmosphere and an energetic mass of fervent surf fans poured into Saquarema Friday, Day 4 of the Oi Rio Pro. Songs and chants rang out as the upbeat crowd grew throughout the day, capping it all off at a fever pitch at the end of Gabriel Medina's Round Three victory over a game Bede Durbidge. Fun, overhead surf and glassy conditions returned on Friday, too, as did a menacing backwash. A startling upset with Title race implications headlined the completion of Round Two in the women's event, with Carissa Moore suffering an early defeat. Meanwhile, the Brazilian contingent on the men's side soaked up the enthusiastic support of their fellow countrymen and nearly ran the table in their Round Two and Three heats. Here's a look back at the day's top action.
