Matt-Lewis Hewitt (NZ) had a good start at the Hurley Australian Open of Surfing at Manly. Hewitt placed 2nd in his four man heat to advance to round two. Winning the heat was Oney Anwar (Indonesia) on a heat tally of 11.26 to Hewitt on 10.70 and both surfers advanced to tomorrows round two.
