Can Matt Wilkinson Win at Supertubes?

It's been more than three decades since a goofyfooter has won the event at Jeffreys Bay. Could Matt Wilkinson be the next to do it?

The Australian, who's currently No. 1 on the Jeep Leaderboard, broke through to the top again after a dark horse win last month in Fiji, and isn't about to let go of it so easily. At the same point last year, he was hot off of the best season start of his career, but lost in Round Three at Jeffreys Bay. After that, he never quite recovered, earning a string of 13ths and 25ths for the rest of the year.

This time around, though, things might be different. In contrast to a meteoric rise up the rankings, Wilko worked his way up in a slow burn, with a runner-up finish here, early loss there, before taking the win at the Outerknown Fiji Pro. It's no secret that Wilko has the skills to win the Corona Open J-Bay. But with his building momentum and a second year of reuslts with coach Glenn Hall, he could just be the one to break J-Bay's goofyfooter curse.

Watch the Corona Open J-Bay live daily through July 23.
