Billy Kemper doesn't mince words when it comes to what motivates him to compete -- he flat-out wants to win. Be it the Puerto Escondido Challenge (which will run Monday, July 31) or a Qualifying Series event at Ala Moana Bowls, the man from Maui is out to win every heat. And like his Maui-bred peers Albee Layer, Matt Meola and Dusty Payne, Kemper's as comfortable surfing 2-foot Lahaina Harbor as he is conquering 25-foot beasts at Jaws. Lately, Kemper's been locking down enough hardware to choke a good-sized trophy case, socking away his second straight Pe'ahi Challenge last year, as well as the 2017 Big Wave Awards Billabong Ride of the Year back in late April. He's certainly one to watch when the action comes on Monday.
