Post Show Report: Wright and Smith Survive Round Two Scares

With a tricky forecast on tap in Tahiti, Commissioner Kieren Perrow had no option but to send out the world's best in less than ideal conditions on opening day of the Billabong Pro Tahiti. But as usual, the pros knew how to make the most of it, and with four heats of Round Two completed, there was plenty of drama. It was a good day for the Brazilian goofyfooters, with Ian Gouveia, Italo Ferreira and Gabriel Medina all taking commanding wins. John John Florence was on his game, too. But J-Bay champion Filipe Toledo became the event's first major casualty when he lost in Round Two to rookie Ethan Ewing. CT frontrunners Jordy Smith and Owen Wright also had to survive Round Two scares.
