World No. 1 Jordy Smith came into the Hurley Pro at Trestles looking to accomplish one thing: secure his spot on top of the Jeep Leaderboard. Given that he's won the event two of the last three years he knew if he could just hold serve and keep his Trestles rhythm rolling, he'd have a good shot at it. And he did.
On Friday morning Smith faced off against Adrian Buchan in the Semifinals. The duo suffered from a dearth of good waves in their match, but Smith remained calm throughout. The kind of calm that comes from the experience. With his win over Ace, and Florence's subsequent loss to Filipe Toledo in Semifinal Heat 2, Smith ensured that he'll be wearing the Jeep Leaders' jersey when the Championship Tour returns to Europe.
